Best Fantasy Series Like Throne of Glass

I read about 80 fantasy books a year.

Every January, I reread the Harry Potter series. It's something I've been doing for about four years so far. I've seen plenty of other people who hold this same tradition. Some readers will read The Lord of the Rings yearly or A Court of Thorns and Roses.

Name a significant fantasy book series, and there's probably someone out there who does a yearly reread of them…and maybe even picks them up throughout the year. Favorite books like those are comfort series. They are there to help you get through those tough times or to bring you joy.

My first favorite fantasy series is easily a number one top favorite for thousands of people. It is written by an author who is very well known.

1. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

I am a Maas fan girl, without a doubt. Anything and everything she writes, I will read. Even her grocery lists. It doesn't matter. I first discovered A Court of Thorns and Roses when Sarah J. Maas was on the third one: A Court of Wings and Ruin. I remember on release day when I went to Target to pick it up, and they didn't have it! Mind you, I had my twins with me, and it wasn't easy to put them in the car and get to the store. But an SJM book? Worth it. So I continued to Barnes and Noble, and they had it there. 

 A Court of Thorns and Roses is about Feyre and her journey. She's human, and her family is poor. They fear the fae. Feyre takes responsibility for taking care of her family. But she runs afoul after killing a wolf, and well… you'll have to read the book to see what happens but trust me when I say you probably should have books 2 and 3 with you so that you can pick them up as soon as you finish.

2. Harry Potter

Of course, this would be included. I love everything about A Court of Thorns and Roses, but Harry Potter is comfortable. If something is wrong, or I just need to relax, I will grab a Harry Potter book. I never get tired of them. His journey and the friends he makes are a story that I will constantly relive. JK Rowling has magic in her writing. I know that's cliché, but it's true. Pick up her book, and you're not in your living room, your bed, or wherever it is that you are sitting and reading. Instead, you are immersed in the world of Magic and Hogwarts and the impending fight between your know Who and Harry Potter.

The Harry Potter series encourages me to write. But I know nothing will ever compare to these books. Rowling has taken first place and always will.

But I will always dream of writing a book day as good as these. It may not happen, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try.

The seven-book series will always be within reach. It is something that heals my soul.

3. Mistborn

My 3rd is not necessarily a series but just an Author. Anything he writes, I will pick up. Just like Sarah J Maas. This author would be Brandon Sanderson. He is a fantasy master. One of my favorites would be Elantris. The more breaths you have, the richer the color you see. Mistborn would be next; the particular kind of metal results in a specific type of power. The Stormlight Archive; it's MASSIVE. Each book is about 1,000 pages. Does it feel long? To me, no, I blew through each of them. A reread is in order soon. If only I didn't have a massive TBR. Are you even a reader if you don't have like a 500-book TBR list?

4. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Again, with Sarah J. Maas…this time with an eight-book series. It follows one girl who fights for her right to rule. Calaena Sardothien meets so many unforgettable characters on her journey. You'll have to read it to find out. But it's good. It's addicting.

5. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

Follow Claire through her time travel back to Scotland in the Highlands. It's an incredible journey full of love and passion. Jaime and Claire are the couples who you love. They go through so many awful things together, but their love gets them through it.

6. Empirium Trilogy by Claire Legrand

A trilogy means three books. I wonder why these books aren't getting more hype. I know it's been a while since these have been published. But they were so amazing! I couldn't put them down. It's a story about two girls in different periods. Rielle and Eliana. It's the story of a blood queen and a sun queen. But are the bad/evil characters evil? There's a story behind every person that makes them who they are. Choices don't always determine who people indeed are.

7. The Blood and Ash Series by Jennifer Armentrout

Jennifer wrote quite a few books. From "Blood and Ash" is about Hawk and Poppy. Poppy is the chosen maiden, locked away to retain her purity. I won't tell you Hawk is someone, but he's essential. Read this if you want steamy scenes and drama. Jennifer also wrote a series that takes place before these books called Flesh and Fire. Also very steamy and very good. A story about the gods is always one that I will pick up.

           There are more series and trilogies and stand-alone books that I have loved. But this list will keep you occupied for a while. 2023 may be the year I find a new author or book series on this list next year.
