Summary

This book drew me in by the first page. I swear Yarros decided to sell her soul for this one. This is my first book from Rebecca Yarros, and I'm so glad I picked it up.

Hey guys, let's be real; I'm not a hard person to please when it comes to books. Most of the time, if I'm excited about a book and pick it up, I end up enjoying it. But that doesn't mean I haven't had my fair share of disappointment with a few reads. You've probably read my past reviews, where I've given glowing feedback and praised books with five-star ratings. I know it might seem like I'm the boy who cried wolf, but I promise I never intend to write reviews like that. I know what I like and tend to reach for those books or authors. However, I have to say, holy crap, guys, Rebecca Yarros' Fourth Wing blew me away!

Now, here's the thing, I'm not usually an audiobook person. My mind tends to wander, and I end up missing crucial details. But with Fourth Wing, I was hooked from the start. I listened to it everywhere, from a traffic jam to doing my laundry. The story centers around Violet Sorrengail, a young girl born with a weak body who was supposed to attend scribe school. Instead, she's thrust into a war college and ordered to become a dragon rider by her mother, who is a commanding general at the Basgiath War College. With danger lurking around every corner and chronic illness to overcome, Violet has to rely on all her strengths to survive.

What I loved about Yarros' writing is how she was able to capture the struggles of someone with a chronic condition. As someone who also faces the same challenges, I could relate to Violet's journey and found myself rooting for her every step of the way. Yarros' writing is easy to engage with, and her storytelling is impeccable. I'm not exaggerating when I say that Fourth Wing is one of the best books I've read this year, and I highly recommend it to everyone.

The Fourth Wing has

  • Dragons
  • War College Setting
  • A brutal Cliffhanger
  • Magic
  • Enemies to Lovers
  • Politics and Betrayal
  • Chronic Illness Rep
  • Amazing World Building

This book is absolutely incredible! I can't stress that enough. I'm beyond thrilled to hear that the sequel is set to release in November because the wait is already killing me. However, I know good things come to those who wait, and books certainly aren't written in a day.

The world-building in Navarre is so incredibly detailed that it's hard not to get completely lost in it. Sometimes books can have confusing world-building and history, but that's not the case here. From the first page, I was hooked and couldn't put it down.

If you haven't picked up this book yet, you need to. Trust me, you won't regret it. And if you do read it, please let me know your thoughts!
